Loy Yang Power drives long-term success
25 July, 2008
Victoria’s largest energy producer, Loy Yang Power, recently embarked on an upgrade of its four-level open-cut coal mine facility, Loy Yang Mine. The ‘in progress’ upgrade includes the redesign and progressive changeover of the mine’s existing coal transfer conveyor drive systems. Output filter for motor drives
08 July, 2008 | Supplied by: Westek Electronics Pty Ltd
The Schaffner Model 510 output filters reduce voltage slew rate (dV/dt) from inverter drives for variable-speed motors. High-voltage slew rates can cause overstressing of long motor drive cables and cause insulation breakdowns in motor windings.

Chlorine controller

Unlike ORP control, using free or total chlorine control can give precise readings of the actual hypochlorous acid or free (residual) chlorine content of the water being treated. Hypochlorous acid content fluctuates with changes in pH and regular ORP readings can give false impressions of the actual ‘effective kill’ of the chemicals being used.
Quadraplex pump controller
08 July, 2008 | Supplied by: Dwyer Instruments (Aust) Pty Ltd
The series QPC is used where four pumps are required to alternate to provide equal run time on each. Alternating loads allows for equal wear on all pumps, lengthening their operation life. The series QPC has five inputs allowing the four outputs to operate properly even if one of the inputs fails to open or close. Four LED indicators show the load that is energised by the SPST output contacts.
Premium platform for SolarGas
25 June, 2008
Engineers and scientists around the world are looking for ways to harness the sun’s thermal energy to replace the diminishing global supplies of fossil fuel with a ‘clean’, carbon-neutral energy source. Australia is particularly well placed to do this, since it has the highest average amount of solar radiation per square metre per year on Earth.
