Safety card for servo amplifier
Pilz has launched a safety card for the servo amplifiers PMCprotego D, so that safety is integrated directly into the drive. When fitted with the safety card PMCprotego S, the servo amplifiers can provide a safe drive solution with numerous safety functions, ranging from safe stop and safe motion functions through to safe brake functions.
On the servo amplifiers PMCprotego DS, control logic and motion monitoring are separate. Motion is monitored precisely where it arises, which means that reaction times are reduced considerably. This is a key factor, particularly for safety on highly dynamic axes. At the same time, fewer additional external safety components are required, so costs are also reduced.
Servo amplifiers PMCprotego DS guarantee safety based on the evaluation of internal system variables. A second encoder is not required in order to achieve SIL 2 (3), PL d (e) or category 3 (4). This means that overall costs are reduced.
With its safe brake test function, the safety card PMCprotego S can provide early detection of wear on brakes. Associated hazards, such as those from suspended loads, can therefore be averted. The functionality of the brake is automatically tested at regular intervals, taking the place of a laborious testing process and stopping the brake failing to respond due to wear.
On the PMCprotego DS, control and feedback of the safety functions are performed via safe inputs and outputs. This guarantees the device’s openness to standard systems. The safety functions are also independent of the motor or encoder type that is used. This enables users to equip their machinery to suit their individual needs. The additional slot for expansion cards provides the opportunity to connect standard fieldbus systems by inserting an optional card.
