The AC 700F controller is designed to close the gap between generic PLCs and complex process control systems.

Part of the Freelance 800F control system, the AC 700F comes with a small footprint and is particularly suitable for small applications consisting of 16 to 256 I/Os and is based on ABB’s AC 500 hardware.

The CPU module is equipped with a front panel display for easy diagnosis, an ethernet port for connection to the control network, and two serial ports for Modbus and extended diagnostics.

Up to eight local (analog/digital) I/O modules of type S700 may be connected to the CPU. The CPU is based on an industrial Motorola PowerPC and features 8 MB RAM.

AC 700F control applications can be created in any of the five IEC 61131-3 dialects by using Control Builder F. Function block diagrams, ladder diagrams, instruction lists, sequential function charts and structured text are all supported. There are over 150 predefined function blocks, and also a User Created Function Block function.

The integrated systems engineering, graphics, configuration, commissioning and diagnostics software provides one software tool for engineering, commissioning and online troubleshooting. Field device configuration is completely integrated into software and there is a uniform database throughout for control, graphics, historian and I/O configuration.

The compact control system allows the integration of all common fieldbuses, leaving the user to select any they wish — whether Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus or HART.
