Determinism in industrial ethernet:
A technology overview — Part 2

18 August, 2009 by Glenn Johnson, Editor

In Part 1 of this article we looked generally at the types of innovations that have been used to make use of ethernet in process plants and factory automation. This month we look at some of the most well-known implementations.

Determinism in industrial ethernet:
A technology overview — Part 1

16 July, 2009 by Glenn Johnson, Editor

The benefits of using well-established ethernet and internet technologies in industrial plants are too great to ignore, but overcoming the requirement for real-time operation has led to some innovative approaches to how this ubiquitous technology can be used in process plants and factory automation.

Industrial wireless ethernet radio

21 May, 2009

N-TRON’s 702-W series industrial wireless ethernet radio claims the highest throughput of any industrial wireless device currently available.

Layer-2 gigabit ethernet switch

11 May, 2009 by

GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms has announced the NETernity RM983RC VME ethernet switch. Designed for demanding network switching applications in industrial, government, telecommunications and defence applications, the 6U form factor RM983RC switch provides support for 12 or 24 gigabit ethernet ports. It ships with GE Fanuc’s OpenWare Lite switch management environment, providing customers with the flexibility to manage configuration of the RM983RC from a serial console or via the network.

N-TRON 700 industrial ethernet switches

20 April, 2009

The N-TRON 700 series industrial ethernet switches are suitable for use connecting ethernet enabled industrial and/or security equipment and are fully managed switches.

1U serial device servers

01 April, 2009

The EKI-1528 and EKI-1526 serial device servers feature 8 and 16 RS232/422/485 serial ports in a 1U rackmount chassis.

ConneXium industrial ethernet switches

01 April, 2009

The ConneXium industrial ethernet infrastructure family includes industrial switches, hubs, transceivers, cables and tools. In addition, it features industrial protocol-to-ethernet gateways, such as MB to ethernet and MB+ to ethernet. The family of products also includes industrial ethernet software tools, such as the ConneXview ethernet diagnostic tool.

Fast/Gigabit Ethernet switch

13 March, 2009

The managed Fast/Gigabit Ethernet switch of the MACH1000 family from Hirschmann Automation and Control has all its ports with the exception of a service port located on the rear of the device. The 24 Fast Ethernet ports, up to four of which support PoE, are available with M12 connections as well as in any combination for other connectors such as MTRJ, St, SC or RJ45. For the gigabit uplinks, two combo ports (10/100/1000 Base-Tx) are optionally available and can be equipped with SFP fibre modules (1000 Base-Fx/SX/LX/LH). In this way, the new design offers a high bandwidth in combination with industry-proven M12 connection technology.
