PST soft starters

Instead of using cryptic codes, the PST soft starter range speaks to operators in plain language (11 languages are available). It simply tells the operator what to do, step by step, whether it is about programming, daily operation or maintenance.

The starter also speaks with other components in a plant. Based on ABB's Industrial IT standard, an optional fieldbus plug allows data to be exchanged smoothly between units, regardless of brand or communications protocol. So it fits in well in any machine park.

The main purpose of a soft starter is to give electric motors a smooth start. With a soft starter, the motor is started up slowly and gently. This way, starting currents are reduced and current spikes eliminated, prolonging the life of surrounding mechanical equipment such as couplings, belts and gearboxes.

Many users would save money using a soft starter instead of a frequency converter. If it is only about soft starting (and stopping) a motor - and operating it at full speed all the time - then a soft starter does the job just as well.
