IP55 enclosures

Wednesday, 01 April, 2009 | Supplied by: ABB Australia Pty Ltd

ABB has announced a range of IP55-rated enclosures and junction boxes. The enclosures are available in 10 sizes — with internal dimensions from 100 x 100 x 80 mm to 310 x 240 x 160 mm — and incorporate a time-saving quarter turn lid screw on some models.

A gasket material has been developed with the IP55 enclosures to ensure structural and environmental stability in harsh environments. ABB has developed a process to produce the lid and gasket in a single pressing. The enclosures use a thermoplastic material, self-extinguishing in compliance with UL94 V-2, and are resistant to abnormal heat and fire up to 960 °C (glow wire test) in compliance with IEC695-2-1.

Some models are available with a cover manufactured from a transparent polycarbonate material for those applications where visibility of the internal components is vital. Metal base plates are also available for convenient mounting of apparatus.

These enclosures are suitable for demanding environments having an operating temperature range from -25 to +75 °C and are shock resistant up to 6 J. They are also highly resistant to chemical and atmospheric agents.

Applications include electronics, machine tools, electrical wiring and a variety of industrial requirements where it is necessary to enclose electrical equipment economically and reliably.
