The W37 and W47 right-angle gear unit ranges from SEW-Eurodrive were launched at National Manufacturing Week this year. They are the latest additions to the company’s 7 Series range of modular geared motor solutions and feature gear ratios as low as 3.2.

The W37 and W47 deliver torques from 70 to 110 Nm and 100 to 180 Nm respectively, making both series suitable for a wide range of conveying applications. Energy-efficient by design, the W37 and W47 right-angle gearmotor ranges incorporate a two-stage gearing arrangement — the first stage comprises a helical gear arrangement while the second stage incorporates SEW-Eurodrive’s Spiroplan gearing configuration. The end result is an energy-efficient, right-angled gearmotor series capable of delivering high output speeds.

Across a number of manufacturing industry sectors, there is a trend of products getting smaller. This requires the modification of multi-conveyor production lines — by minimising the gap between each conveyor, small products are prevented from falling between them. One way to achieve this is to employ conveyors with small-diameter rollers. However, in order to maintain throughput, roller-speeds must be increased.

The W37 and W47 gearmotors are designed to deliver the high-speed output required, and their right-angle configuration makes them suitable for mounting directly on the conveyor.

The W37 and W47 series’ ‘hollow shaft mount’ housing features a compact, self-draining aseptic design free from crevices and contaminant trap-points, making them suitable for hygienic clean area manufacturing applications.
