New fuel-efficient mobile crushing plant arrives in Australia

Monday, 26 May, 2014

Tutt Bryant Equipment, exclusive Australian dealer of Metso’s Lokotrack mobile screening and crushing equipment, has launched the latest addition to the Lokotrack range. Designated the LT1213S, the new mobile impactor with onboard screen was unveiled in early May during an exclusive launch function at the company’s Queensland facility in Rocklea. The invitation-only event attracted customers from around Australia. Participants were impressed by the advances that Metso has made with the new machine.

The LT1213S is more productive and economical than ever, making it a welcome addition to the already well-respected Lokotrack range. This versatile machine is equally suited to the processing of both new aggregates and recycled material. It can be configured with the screen as a closed loop machine or the return conveyor can be slewed to build a stockpile. The screen is also readily detached, allowing the LT1213S to be used as a straight crusher.

More economical

A number of elements have been combined to deliver a15% reduction in fuel consumption when compared to previous models, including:

  • Direct belt drive to the crusher.
  • Optimisation of the engine speed via a newly designed and more efficient hydraulic system.
  • Use of an independent demand-driven hydraulic drive fan.
  • Idle mode, which is activated when the feeder and crusher are empty and deactivated when material is placed in the feeder.

More productive

While there are modest improvements in crushing throughput via better flow, the most significant improvements are in screening capacity - generally the limiting factor in a combined crushing/screening operation.

The machine’s 3600 mm x 1600 mm dual slope screen is 40% larger than the previous model and achieves a 20-30% greater throughput of finished product.

By addressing what is the limiting factor in a crusher/screen circuit, the practical output of the Lokotrack 1213S is significantly greater than that of its predecessor, setting it apart in its class.

More compact and self-contained

The new machine is designed to set up, change configuration and pack up without the need for any assist equipment such as a crane or heavy manual handling. For remote areas, this can add up to significant savings in crewing requirements and crane hire.

All conveyors are stowed onboard the machine for transport. As demonstrated at the launch, the radial side conveyor can be slewed 90° from the closed circuit position against the side of the machine to the stockpiling position in under two minutes.

The side conveyor also requires no assistance in setting up for operation or stowing for transport.

Easier to service

The LT1213S has a number of advances in serviceability. The polycarbonate cover over the crusher drive belts is significantly lighter than the previous steel cover and can be readily opened and propped by one man.

The rotor cover has power opening and the rotor can be rotated hydraulically for replacing wear parts. An onboard jib facilitates handling breaker bars.

Onboard legs allow the screen unit to be lowered to the ground and removed for maintenance and for changing screen sizes.

Metso partnership

The importance of the launch was underlined by the presence of Jim Blaker, Tutt Bryant Equipment’s chief operating officer.

Jim emphasised his company’s commitment to Lokotrack mobile crushing and screening equipment during the launch when he announced the appointment of Paul Doran as national business development manager for Lokotrack as well as a dedicated team of Lokotrack area managers in each state.

Paul joined Tutt Bryant after previously working with Golding Contractors, Wagners and Boral, and is heartened by the close working relationship between his company and Metso both locally and globally.

He said, “I believe that the consultative approach we have with Metso allows us to work together to achieve the best outcomes for our customers.

“Our network of 14 branches around the country complements Metso’s global support network and gives us the ‘on-the-ground’ presence to provide exceptional support for Metso mobile crushing and screening equipment.

“This is backed by the extensive training that our people have received, including crushing and screening process, performing site analysis as well as understanding the intrinsic benefits the equipment provides,” he said.

Metso Dealer Business Manager - Australasia Greg Clayton believes that Tutt Bryant’s strong national presence, combined with the technical competency of Metso’s staff, provides Lokotrack customers with an unrivalled mobile crusher and screen support package.

He said, “Tutt Bryant’s staff has had extensive training and is very competent. If they come across an issue that they can’t resolve, our Australian-based technical team can provide same-day assistance. We can also call on engineering staff at our design and manufacturing centre in Finland if required. ”
