Low harmonic drives

30 July, 2009

Danfoss Drives claims to have launched the first mass-produced VLT low harmonic drive. The drive eliminates the harmonic disturbances on the supply grid by actively imposing currents into the grid so that the high-quality sine wave of the grid current is maintained.

Current switches

30 July, 2009

Dwyer Instruments has released the series SCS current switch, suitable for monitoring whether fans, pumps, or motors are operating.

Pump and fan drive

25 June, 2009 by

ABB has announced a low-voltage AC drive, specifically targeted at pump and fan applications ranging from 0.37 to 22 kW. Built-in PID controllers are used to vary the drive’s performance in response to changes in pressure, flow or other external data, modifying the performance according to the needs of the application. This can eliminate the need for an external PLC and helps to save energy.

Variable speed drives

09 June, 2009 by

NHP carries stock of the Santerno range of variable speed drives, which includes the Sinus Nano, Micro and Penta drives.

Drive

18 May, 2009 by

Representing the first drive from the Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 750 series, the PowerFlex 755 AC drive is available in power ranges from 7.5 to 250 kW at 400/480 VAC and 540/650 VDC input. It supports multiple languages, meets global standards and certifications, and is suitable for many industries, including manufacturing, food and beverage, water/wastewater, materials handling, metals, mining and automotive.

Medium voltage industrial variable speed drives

18 May, 2009 by WEG Australia

This tech paper presents different technologies and topologies of medium-voltage (MV) drives available on the market. The paper describes the advantages and disadvantages of each configuration and the impact in the quality of energy in the mains and motor sides when using them is also analysed.

Save energy and achieve greater control with variable speed drives

17 May, 2009 by Glenn Johnson

In today’s climate of rising energy costs and carbon trading schemes, any technology which helps plants use energy more efficiently should be adopted. Variable speed drives offer the ability to control the speed and torque of motors in many applications while providing significant energy savings — but only if implemented correctly in the right application.
