The Pepperl+Fuchs FieldConnex Ethernet-APL field switch offers dual functionality for Profibus PA instruments. Alongside Ethernet-APL, it automatically detects the Profibus PA fieldbus protocol and maps data from these instruments to Profinet for control technology. This process, defined as a ‘Proxy’ in Profinet and Profibus standards, enables seamless data transfer across all protocols and devices at the engineering station, simplifying tasks for planners and operators.

Device integration into control systems is achieved via the PA profile, which standardises measured values, configuration parameters and alerts for field devices. This standardised approach reduces engineering complexity, especially when managing large numbers of measurements or replacing devices.

Designed for hazardous areas, the Ethernet-APL rail field switch includes intrinsic safety explosion protection (Ex ia IIC and Ex ic IIC), making it suitable for use in Zone 2 and Division 2 environments. It is mounted on a DIN rail and supports both the Manchester Bus-powered Physical Layer (MBP) and Ethernet-APL, allowing easy integration with existing Profibus PA devices. The field switch also features efficient technology implemented directly within its patented chip design.
