Fraba/Posital MCD heavy-duty stainless steel encoders

The MCD heavy-duty absolute encoder from Fraba/Posital is based on the latest magnetic technology. The stainless steel housing with IP69K protection makes the encoder resistant to most chemicals and cleaning substances as well as high-pressure water jets. Combined with the sturdy ball bearings (for high shaft loads up to 300 N) this sensor is suitable for reliable measurement under extreme environmental conditions and outdoor applications.

The encoders use the Wiegend technology to keep perfect track of both increments per turn and the total number of turns, regardless of the speed or movement without power applied.

The MCD harnesses the inherent energy in the magnetic field to count turns, should there be a loss of power to the encoder. No external or internal battery is employed for multi-turn tracking for absolute positioning in various construction and mining machines.

These encoders are currently available in a simple SSI interface, available with a preset and a complement input, for ease of installation. It is also available in a more sophisticated CANopen fieldbus interface, common with mobile machine manufacturers. In the near future the encoder will also be available with an analog, 4-20 mA or 0-10 V interface, making it an easy potentiometric replacement.
