Rockwell Automation has launched the Allen-Bradley CompactLogix L23 controller. The latest addition to the CompactLogix family of controllers extends the functionality and flexibility of Rockwell Automation’s Logix control platform to small machine-level control applications.
The CompactLogix L23 leverages the control engine, development tools, network and operator interface technologies, and communications services of the Logix control platform. Controller applications are developed using RSLogix 5000 programming software, allowing users to move seamlessly from one control application to another with no additional program development or training.
The CompactLogix L23 supports advanced Integrated Architecture features including ‘alarms and events’ and ‘drive integration’, which are traditionally managed via a dedicated HMI or a separate programming package. Use of a common database between FactoryTalk View and PanelView Plus offers easy HMI integration and reduces duplicate development efforts in both the controller and the HMI. Programming time can be reduced and errors that can occur through code duplication can be minimised.
Featuring an integrated CPU, power supply and onboard I/O all in a compact housing, the CompactLogix L23 is equipped with 512 KB of memory, and can accommodate up to three ‘continuous’, ‘periodic’ or ‘event’ tasks and four programs.
Initially offered in three I/O and communications configurations, the CompactLogix L23 provides users with high levels of functionality and flexibility. Integrated EtherNet/IP ports and preconfigured I/O streamline installation, commissioning and operation, and permit simplified networking to other controllers and plant-floor devices. The CompactLogix L23 can also accommodate up to two Compact I/O or communications cards for further operational flexibility.
