Banner Engineering R58B Series registration mark sensor

The R58B Series registration mark sensor from Banner Engineering provides the same performance detection and colour contrast sensitivity of the R58E, but with the addition of a simplified teach process. Teach is performed quickly via a single-click on the teach push-button on the sensor or via remote input. The teach button allows the sensor to ‘learn’ the light and dark sensing conditions, based on user inputs, and then can automatically adjust the sensitivity to place the operating threshold midway between threshold for the light and dark condition.

During the teach process, the R58B automatically selects a red, green or blue LED to optimise the application contrast. Then, the selected colour is indicated on the user interface, upon which the customer-specified colour can be set from push-buttons or a PLC-compatible remote input. The teach button can be temporarily deactivated by putting the sensor into RUN mode, or, all buttons can be locked out via the remote interface.

The R58B is capable of detecting 16 levels of greyscale, and has a fast 10 kHz switching frequency and a smart gain control algorithm to maximise performance in low-contrast or high-gloss applications. 11 status LEDs indicate sensor configuration and currently selected emitter colour.

The R58B is cased in an IP67-rated, zinc alloy die-cast housing with high-quality acrylic lens, making it suitable for food processing applications. A single output configuration is available (PNP or NPN by model).
