Universal Robots to show latest robots at Modern Manufacturing Expo

Universal Robots has announced it will be showcasing its technology at the first edition of the Modern Manufacturing Expo, which will take place on 20 and 21 September 2022 at the Sydney Showground.

The expo will showcase the future of manufacturing, highlighting the path for the digital transformation journey. It provides industry-leading suppliers with a platform to showcase their latest technologies and equipment.

“We are excited to be part of Modern Manufacturing Expo history,” said Masayuki Mase, Country Manager for Universal Robots Oceania. “It’s also the ideal platform for us to showcase our latest collaborative automation technologies.”

Universal Robots has cemented a name for itself as a partner to the local industry and is actively working on building a larger presence in Australia.

“We have invested in on-the-ground sales and technical support and are able to service customers across the region,” Mase said.

It’s no secret that the demand for collaborative automation continues to grow, and Universal Robots’ latest recorded annual earnings is indicative of this. Shortened supply chains, reshoring of manufacturing, labour shortages and lights-out manufacturing are catalysts for growth in the sector.

“Companies need to compete at both a local and an international level. Gone are the days where regions were reliant on head office to produce and ship goods,” Mase said.

“We recently launched the UR20 — a next-generation cobot with a reach of 1750 mm and a 20 kg payload,” he added. “The higher payload and better reach makes this the ideal solution for more heavy-duty palletising. Depending on the joint type, customers can also enjoy a 65% increase in speed and a 25% increase in joint torque capability.”

In addition, Universal Robots will use the platform to get visitors further acquainted with some of the company’s firm favourites. “The UR10e was upgraded to accommodate a payload of 12.5 kg. It’s one of our most versatile and popular cobots and its well suited to the likes of machine tending and palletising, which are very popular applications in the local market.”

Mase added that Universal Robots will also be showing a welding application demonstration.

“Globally, automation for welding applications remains one of the key requirements by our customers. A cobot adds flexibility, efficiency and freedom to welding processes. In addition, when the task is completed, it can be easily redeployed to other areas where it can add value.

“Today it’s all about scrutinising every application on the factory floor and finding ways to make them more efficient. Businesses both big and small are embracing the benefits of automation. It’s no longer a nice-to-have, it’s now a necessity to help the business remain competitive. This perfectly sums up the aim of this show.”
