Australian manufacturer to take on Europe

An Australian manufacturer of electric motors is set to launch into the European market after signing a lucrative contract with a major Swiss distributor of industrial components.

CMG International of Melbourne has announced a distribution agreement with the Angst+Pfister Group for its three-phase AC electric motors.

The motors will initially be sold into Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

Sales of electric motors in Europe have been estimated at around $1.5 billion per annum with the market experiencing strong growth over the last decade.

Head of CMG International, Rohan Pollard said that while the market has traditionally been dominated by well-established brands like ABB, Siemens, WEG and ATB, Australia is gaining a reputation for being a world-class manufacturer.

"Australia has been largely working "under the radar' of its American and European counterparts and developing solutions that are the equal of anything currently available," Pollard said.

"Our decision to sell into Europe was predicated on strong sales in the UK and interest in the design of our motors."

He said the company chose to work through a major distributor rather than establish its own sales office because of the reach and reputation of Angst+Pfister.
