Sandvik cuts 37 jobs due to mining decline
Sandvik has announced it will cut 37 jobs at its Heatherbrae facility, five months after cutting 69 jobs across its Mayfield and Heatherbrae operations. The company attributed the decision to weaker demand for its mining products.
The company will shed about 25 jobs when it relocates its conveyor production unit from Heatherbrae to Bayswater in Western Australia. A further 12 positions will be made redundant at the Heatherbrae site.
Sandvik Australia Country Manager Rowan Melrose said in a statement that the decision had come after an extensive review of its global conveyor component capacity, the Newcastle Herald reported.
