PNOZsigma safety relays

01 April, 2009

The multifunctional PNOZsigma relay allows a smaller number of units to be used in applications that previously required the use of numerous different models of safety relay, meaning that stockholdings can be reduced substantially. The PNOZsigma relays also provide LEDs on the front that give much better diagnostic data than their predecessors, helping with troubleshooting and therefore reducing machine downtime.

Configuration software

01 April, 2009 by

Pilz has released version 6.0.0 of the PNOZmulti Configurator software package for use with the PNOZmulti modular safety controller. It is available in English and German, plus a new feature enables diagnostic messages for end users to be created offline in any language and imported into the Configurator.

A safe, clean business — monitoring an exhaust purification plant

16 February, 2009

Systems for thermal exhaust purification are subject to furnace regulations, and the safety of such plants presents a particular challenge for automation technology. In the past, the safety functions on systems manufactured by Dürr were monitored using conventional automatic gas burner control systems and safety relays, but safety and efficiency have since been greatly improved with the implementation of advanced safety control systems.

Increased plant safety puts focus on tank gauging

18 December, 2008 by Christian Skaug*

The demand for safety technology in bulk liquid storage plants is increasing worldwide. This market trend can clearly be seen in tank gauging projects where Safety Integrity Level (SIL) requirements are now being incorporated.

Safety hinges, pull ropes and guards

01 December, 2008

Treotham Automation has increased its Euchner safety switch range with the addition of safety hinges, rope pull switches and CET non-contact safety guard locks.

Wieland safety switch

01 December, 2008

Treotham Automation has released the Wieland SNV4063KP safety switch that has a selectable access delay for applications on machines that have a slow rundown time.

Modular safety lights

01 December, 2008

Treotham Automation has launched the Elfin modular safety lighting range, which includes warning lights, access illuminators and machinery cabinet lights.

Safety gate switch and interlock

01 November, 2008

Pilz has introduced a gate switch with an interlock with a non-contact transponder for the switching function and an electromagnet to hold the gate closed.

Hazardous area gas analyser

05 October, 2008

The flameproof housing of the EL3060 analyser fulfils the requirements of Category II 2G and due to its high safety standards can be used in plants with potentially explosive gas atmospheres of Zone 1 and Zone 2.

On the safe side at Shell Clyde

25 June, 2008

The Shell oil refinery at Clyde — nestled among the mangroves on the banks of the Parramatta River — is a well-known Sydney landmark. With encroaching suburbia and the surrounding fragile ecology of the Parramatta River on its doorstep, there is a need to maintain high safety and environmental standards. With the safety systems at Clyde due for an upgrade, Shell wanted to maximise the safety and operational requirements of the plant.
