Wireless data logging system

T&D’s RTR-5 Series wireless system for the measurement of temperature, humidity, voltage or pulse consists of compact water-resistant data loggers, a dedicated base station, data collector and communication port which allow for data collection, start and stop recording and data checking via wireless communication.

The data loggers transfer information to the multifunction communication interfaces via shortwave radio communication and each logger unit can record up to 16,000 readings — about 666 days or two years of readings if set at a recording interval of 1 h. The specially designed low energy consumption circuit allows the base unit to operate for up to six months on one lithium battery.

If unobstructed and direct, a wireless communication range of 100 m is possible. Wireless transmission is possible within the range of -30 to 80 °C, which makes it possible to use in below freezing conditions. The system can be reliably used in high condensation areas, refrigerated and frozen environments as well as underground.

In the case of a loss of signal between the logger and the base station, the data recorded is not lost as all the data is stored on the logger itself. The base unit is provided with software which allows for printing, tables and the graphing of recorded data in remote units. The base units can be connected to a computer via USB and a networked base station allows the user to display the data over the internet or a local area network and set alerts to be sent directly to a mobile phone.
