Emerson wins contract in asian power market

Wednesday, 29 March, 2006

The opening of Taiwan's utility market to independent power producers has generated greater competition, with more companies allowed to build power plants and offer services to the Taiwan Power Company (Taipower).

One such company taking advantage of the liberalisation of the Taiwan utility market is Emerson Process Management, which was recently awarded a contract by Taipower, believed to be the fourth and single largest investment since the market's liberalisation.

Expected to be fully operational after 2007, the Emerson project involves a 2,700 MW plant consisting of two 1,350 MW units at Yenliao, on the north eastern tip of Taiwan, near the capital Taipei. The advanced boiling water reactor technology marks a departure from the enduser's existing three nuclear plants built in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
