At 177 kilometres, the Murraylink Project is the world's longest underground high-voltage interconnection so it is perhaps fitting that its implementation has won a major national environmental award.

The Case EARTH Award for Environmental Excellence is for best practice and innovation in the environmental management of civil construction projects and is presented by the Civil Contractors Federation of Australia.

ABB won the award for 2002 thanks primarily to the company's use of its High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Light technology which helped minimise environmental impact during the construction.

The Murraylink Project will transfer 220 megawatts of power between Victoria and South Australia.
