Siemens integrated safety functions for cranes

The Simotion D motion control system and Sinamics drive family feature integrated safety functionalities for fulfilling the requirements of Performance Level d of EN ISO 13849-1 or category 3 according to EN 954-1 as well as Safety Integrity Level 2 according to EN 61508/IEC62061.

Sinamics S120 is a drive system for motion control applications and features a comprehensive safety package which helps protect persons and machines. A crane can be operated safely and practicably even under all required operating conditions; for example, in set-up and test mode with an open protective door. The safety functions have been certified by the Employer’s Liability Insurance Association or the German Technical Inspectorate.

The Sinamics drive features the following safety functions: Safe Torque Off, Safe Brake Control, Safe Stop 1 and 2 for stopping safely with input from a monitoring system or sensor, Safe Operating Stop, Safely Limited Speed, as well as Safe Speed Monitor.
