Omron Electronics has released the CJ2H PLC CPU. Using all the existing CJ1 cards and power supplies, the CJ2H allows users access to improvements in performance and technology while maintaining backward compatibility.
The CJ2H features EtherNet/IP as a standard on all CPUs. EtherNet/IP is fast becoming the global standard for industrial ethernet connections. Backed by the ODVA, EtherNet/IP is open vendor. It uses CIP (common industrial protocol) to allow third-party devices direct access to memory locations, without any knowledge of Omron's addressing architecture.
A USB port, another standard feature on all CPUs, supports all programming functions. The Windows plug-and-play facility is used for an easy, high-speed link between the PLC and computer the first time the two are connected. There are no complicated settings that first need to be made, providing an immediate time saving. An RS232 port is retained on all CPUs for HMI or other legacy connections.
As well as new Ladder programming features, the CJ2H provides new levels of memory capacity and program execution speed. The CompactFlash memory port is suitable for data logging and program retention or replacement. Full backward compatibility has been maintained, meaning users can still use CJ1 programs, including ones from older PLC families.
