One million-hour safety record

Tuesday, 31 July, 2007

Champion Compressors has recently achieved one million production hours without a 'lost workday case'. This means that for nearly four years, all Champion Compressors' work places — both its own manufacturing facility and its customers' sites — have remained injury-free.

"Champion Compressors nurtures a culture of safety among its employees and considers this its priority," said Champion Compressors' environmental health and safety coordinator, Simon Meyrick.

"A safety-conscious and confident workforce is inherently efficient, which results in more cost-effective products for the end user."

The company adopts a three-pronged safety strategy, implementing initiatives which target safety in the final products, corporate administration and field services. The company's products have safety built in, while prudent management directives ensure best-practice methods are employed on the shop floor.

In the field services sector, the company's service department targets safe operations, even in the most unfamiliar environments.

"Champion is achieving these high standards of safety by empowering its staff through regular training, re-enforcement and equality among its employees," said Meyrick.
