The Fluid Property Analyser (FPA) is an innovative and robust sensor designed and manufactured by Measurement Specialties which simultaneously and directly measures the viscosity, density, dielectric constant and temperature of fluids.
The mechanical resonator sensing element monitors real-time, in situ, changes in the physical properties of fluids regardless of whether the fluid is static, pressurised or flowing. The sensor directly assesses the quality, condition and contaminant load in a wide variety of fluids such as engine lubricants, transmission and hydraulic oils, gear oils, fuels, refrigerants, solvents, cryogenics or inks.
The Measurement Specialties’ FPA is easily adapted to interface with any application. It can be installed on engines, compressors, transmissions, gear boxes, process streams, hydraulics and other systems in which fluid quality or condition monitoring is fundamental to the operation of critical assets.
The FPA connectivity and communication with distributed or vehicle control systems is achieved through one of the optional RS232/485, USB, CAN 2.0B or 2.0A and analog configurations. A simple graphical user interface operates on standard PC hardware and enables easy set-up and operation of the FPA when it is not interfaced to automated distributed control or vehicle control systems. Remote installations and applications are supported with onboard data logging capabilities.
Online fluid property monitoring protects equipment and machinery by providing users with real-time diagnostic information regarding fluid quality and condition. This allows operators to optimise their preventive maintenance program to minimise equipment downtime and labour costs by relying on condition-based drain intervals.
