Perle Systems Iolan DS serial ethernet converters

Belden has announced the addition of four Perle Systems’ Iolan DS serial ethernet converters to the Hirschmann product line. The converters enable the connection of end devices to ethernet networks and are easy to configure through the Perle Device Manager software.

With robust metal housings and fanless cooling, the converters are claimed to offer features and benefits to suit applications such as discrete manufacturing, processing operations, power generation and distribution, and building automation.

All Iolan DS serial converters feature a minimum of an ethernet port and software-selectable RS232/422/485 serial interfaces, and meet IEC safety (IEC 60950-1) and EMC (EN 61000) standards. They support various protocols for serial data transmission including Modbus/TCP, raw serial data over UTP, IPv4 and IPv6.

The range comprises four types. The DS1 T is a compact device that can be mounted directly on a wall or DIN rail using an optional adapter. The SDS4 HL features an extensive range of security functions, includes four serial interfaces for RJ45 ports and has a special coating that protects against condensation.

The SDS3 M, with three serial RJ45 interfaces, is equipped with a V.92/V.90 modem that enables the converter to be connected to wide area networks. The SDS16C HV, built for use in switch cabinets, is an IP30-rated converter with 16 serial RJ45 interfaces and two RJ45 Gb ethernet ports that can be used where extreme operating conditions are found, such as transformer stations in the electricity industry.
