Profinet node growth exceeds expectations
Profinet is experiencing a rapid increase in the number of installed nodes, recording a 40% growth in the number of installments during 2008.
Profinet instalments grew from 1.1 million at the end of 2007 to 1.6 million at the end of 2008.
PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) estimates that the number will rise to 3 million by the end of 2010.
Profibus node instalments have grown by 11%, to 5 million nodes in 2008 from 4.5 million in 2007.
By the end of 2008, around 880,000 Profibus PA were installed, amounting to 20% growth, while PROFIsafe systems installations grew by around 10%.
