ANS/ANM58 PROFINET: The absolute encoder generation for higher productivity

SICK has launched the ANS/ANM58 PROFINET, an absolute encoder generation specifically designed to enhance machine and system productivity. The advanced optical measurement system ensures precise movement control, while real-time transmission of movement and position data helps reduce cycle times and enables PROFINET IRT clock-synchronous processes. The encoder’s compactness and broad physical range provide significant advantages for integration in tight and challenging installation spaces. The encoder’s control integration is simple, either through the Siemens TIA Portal or SICK’s SOPAS tool. The ANS/ANM58 absolute encoders also support condition-based system maintenance with their process-related diagnostic data. This makes them suitable for meeting a wide range of industrial needs, such as in packaging technology, mechanical engineering, and storage and conveyor systems.

In automated machinery and systems, encoders are critical for efficiently monitoring drive and axis movements. With the ANS/ANM58, SICK meets the diverse requirements for rotary single-turn and multi-turn sensors, delivering precise position, speed, and displacement measurements. This includes not only accurate, clock-synchronous motion control and shorter cycle times but also a compact design and suitable mechanical options for easy integration. There is also growing demand for encoders that support condition monitoring in machines and systems.

Installation depth of just 39 mm

The ANS/ANM58 absolute encoders feature a space-saving design, catering to the trend of miniaturisation in mechanical engineering. With an installation depth of just 39 mm, the radial connection variant is the shallowest encoder in its class, making it perfect for tight spaces.

Extensive physical variability for any installation

The ANS/ANM58 series offers users the flexibility to configure their ideal encoder. Options include single-turn or multi-turn measurement, with resolutions of 18-bit or 34-bit, depending on the task. The encoders accommodate various installation space requirements with flat or narrow housing designs, along with axial or radial plug variants. With a solid shaft, blind hollow shaft, or through hollow shaft, users can choose from three options for transmitting rotational movements. A range of flange types ensures flexibility during mounting. This new encoder generation delivers optimal solutions for a variety of requirements.

Data communication via PROFINET IRT: Real-time transmission for high productivity

PROFINET has become a globally established, cross-industry fieldbus standard for industrial automation. The PROFINET interface with Encoder Profile version 4.2 in the ANS/ANM58 absolute encoder generation enables synchronous process execution via the IRT (isochronous real time) function, reducing cycle times. The high-resolution opto-ASIC from SICK provides precise position, speed, and displacement measurements, facilitating controlled movements of drives and axes. This precision also helps ensure that process steps are coordinated accurately, especially in complex systems. The new encoders from SICK are crucial for boosting machine productivity.

Easy and intuitive integration and parameterisation

The ANS/ANM58 absolute encoders use the widely adopted industrial Ethernet standard, making it easy to integrate the sensors into controllers and networks through engineering tools such as the Siemens TIA Portal. Using the web-based, user-friendly SICK SOPAS configuration software, users can quickly and intuitively adjust sensors to meet the specific needs of their application.

Support for machine condition monitoring

Condition-based system maintenance aims to reduce and prevent unplanned downtime. The ANS/ANM58 encoders provide valuable process-related diagnostic data, including temperature, speed, counter functions, and timestamps. This data can also be used to define application-specific limit values, such as warning thresholds for targeted maintenance and servicing. This approach enables users to monitor process performance, prevent unexpected machine breakdowns, and boost system productivity.

Ideal for packaging technology, mechanical engineering, and storage and conveyor systems

Many applications rely on the precise movement of drives and axes and require accurate position, displacement, speed, or acceleration data to ensure safe operation. The ANS/ANM58 absolute encoder generation delivers this data, making it ideal for synchronising processes in packaging technology, precise position recording and movement measurement for machine and system control in mechanical engineering, or the efficient automation of transport and handling processes in storage and conveyor systems.
