Omron has recently introduced the CP1W-CIF41, an add-on ethernet option board for CP1 PLCs, enabling communications to these micro PLCs over ethernet networks, boosting their flexibility and usefulness. Other benefits include increased scalability, added connectivity to HMI and SCADA systems, programming over ethernet, and retrofit capability.
When standalone automation of machines and workstations is outgrown, and integration between them is needed, adding a CIF41 to each machine/workstation PLC allows the CJ PLC to coordinate them, by issuing commands and accepting responses over ethernet. All the machines and workstations can then function as a system with integrated control, improving overall performance.
