Baxter Research Robot available to purchase in Australia
The Baxter Research Robot has been released for sale in Australia and New Zealand. The low-cost robot is an open-source platform that allows researchers to customise a range of applications for robots and to drive robotics innovation.
Since its introduction to Australia in January 2014, five major Australian universities have each purchased a Baxter Research Robot. In addition, a number of small manufacturing companies have expressed interest in purchasing the collaborative robot.
Baxter was designed to be a low-cost robot (from $35,000) which could interact and work alongside humans without the need for safety cages or devices. It is being used by universities in such diverse fields as mechatronics, human-assistive robotics, artificial intelligence, education and outreach, medical research and more. Industry uses Baxter to make manufacturing competitive by carrying out mundane repetitive tasks and allowing humans to focus on other more productive areas.
Its two arms, each with 7 DoF, allow users and researchers to develop a vast array of tasks for Baxter to carry out. With its many in-built sensors and cameras Baxter can be used to bring a range of concepts to reality.
The Baxter Research Robot is available in Australia exclusively from Training Systems Australia.
