The Harmonic Drive operating principle allows high reduction ratios with concentric shafts and with no backlash and vibration. It is based on a simple construction comprising three components: Wave Generator, Flexispline, and Circular Spline.

The Flexispline is made of special steel with a higher resistance to fatigue. In this design up to 30% of the teeth are always taking some load and these teeth come into contact with one another face to face. Therefore, every tooth is subjected to a minimum of force while providing maximum of torque.

Harmonic Drive Systems offers to robot manufacturers many benefits including high positional accuracy and low vibration in a compact design. Their lightweight design makes them suitable for use in any of the robot axes as they contribute minimal weight to the robotic arm therefore increasing robot payload capacity.

These features are also critical to applications such as in machine tools, printing machines, medical equipment, industrial robots, solar tracking devices, and in measuring and testing machines.

Harmonic drives are suitable for use in any applications requiring high accuracy and reliability, high torque, low weight, precision phase and speed control, and a compact design.
