Peristaltic pumps for Czech mining operation

Wednesday, 06 October, 2010

Peristaltic hose pumps supplied by Watson-Marlow Bredel are being used as part of extensive remediation activities undertaken by Diamo, a state enterprise in the Czech Republic. Diamo is tasked with reducing the environmental impact of open cast uranium mining in the Czech Republic.

Handling abrasive and corrosive fluids and slurries typically used in mining operations presents a challenge to any pump manufacturer. High solids content and strong acidity create problems for diaphragm, centrifugal or other types of pumps where the product comes in contact with the working parts of the pump.

Following consultation with Watson-Marlow’s mining applications specialists, Diamo opted for SPX hose pumps to meter lime slurry for the mine spoil washing process. The hose pumps operate with a system pressure of 5 bar and are suited to the challenging nature of Diamo’s requirements.

Capable of handling aggressive and acidic fluids, the SPX pumps are delivering good results, including a significant reduction in maintenance costs and plant downtime.
