Thursday, 24 July, 2014 | Supplied by: Backplane Systems Technology Pty Ltd

MPL’s CEC Series ultracompact fanless computer range is based on Intel Atom processors and has been designed for use in industry, maritime, railways and automation applications. The dimensions of CEC embedded computer are only 62 × 162 × 120 mm.

To ensure long-term availability, seamless operation in extended temperature environments and to minimise power consumption, onboard soldered industrial-grade Intel Atom processors (Z5x0PT 1.1 GHz and 1.33 GHz, as well as the Z5x0P 1.6 GHz) are utilised in combination with the Poulsbo US15WPT chipset. This design feature allows the CEC Series to run at full load in an operating temperature range from -40 up to +85°C.

By default, several Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB 2.0, serial ports (RS232 or RS422/485), PS/2 and DVI-D are available. Furthermore, the industrial PC can be expanded via the onboard Mini PCI-Express interface to provide functionality such as WLAN, Bluetooth or UMTS.

All connectors are soldered onboard, therefore no internal wiring is required. This results in a system that has one of the highest levels operating safety and reliability. The interfaces are available on the bottom and top of the housing.

The wide input voltage range is specified for 8-36 VDC, plus it is polarity and load dump protected making these units well suited for vehicle applications.

Up to 2 GB of DDR2 SO-DIMM memory modules can be used. Two onboard SATA interfaces are provided, allowing an integrated SATA disk-on-module (DOM) and or a 2.5″ SATA hard drive to be installed.
