Victoria opens new training program round to address skills gaps

The Victorian Government has announced the opening of applications for a new round of its Skills Solutions Partnerships program, to help address workforce needs across industries that include advanced manufacturing and defence.

Grants of up to $500,000 are available to develop practical and innovative training courses addressing critical skills gaps in priority sectors. The Victorian Government says the program has proven to be a success in providing specialised applied training that is industry-facing.

It will also develop a new applied AI and data skills course ensuring advanced manufacturing workers and small businesses across the Greater Geelong region can upskill to use AI safely and effectively.

Since 2023, more than $7 million of funding has been awarded to 15 projects. Under Round 2, Chisholm Institute with project partners Sutton Tools and Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute Limited, received funding to pilot a hands-on advanced measurement training course. This course was to strengthen metrology and precision measurement skills in manufacturing and defence sectors.

“By bringing industry and training providers together, this program has consistently delivered targeted, hands-on training that businesses and workers need, which is why we are continuing to back it through a fourth round,” said Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing Melissa Horne.

Expressions of Interest for Round 4 of the Skills Solutions Partnerships program close Friday, 27 November 2026.
