Victoria offers grants for low-carbon manufacturing

The Victorian Government has announced a low-carbon manufacturing grant program to help businesses to upskill and capitalise on opportunities to manufacture low-carbon products.

Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Ben Carroll announced that applications are now open for the Low Carbon Manufacturing Grant Program — a state government investment of around $7 million to help Victoria meet the demand for low-carbon technologies and products.

“Victoria leads the nation on climate action and advanced manufacturing; this program ensures we continue towards our net zero by 2050 target while creating new jobs and attracting investment,” he said.

As Victoria works towards its plan of halving emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050, this initiative is intended to help Victorian businesses become more competitive in a low-carbon economy, while strengthening the state’s supply chain resilience and creating high-skilled jobs.

The program includes two streams. The Business Readiness Stream will provide grants of up to $50,000 for small to medium-sized manufacturers to access business services, advice or expertise to pivot towards low-carbon and renewable energy supply chains.

Through the Business Growth Stream, grants of between $50,000 and $250,000 will be available for businesses to purchase or develop new equipment, skills or technology to manufacture components and products that support the transition to net zero emissions.

Manufacturing in Victoria employs more than 260,000 people and contributes around $31 billion to the state’s economy each year.

The Victorian Budget 2022/23 included the establishment of the $120 million Victorian Industry Fund to support Victoria’s economic recovery, generate new jobs and boost advanced manufacturing.
