Top-of-the-line control training for engineering students
Murdoch University’s engineering students are now using modern plant control software and hardware, due to the support of companies Honeywell and Danfoss. Honeywell have provided control software and hardware at cost price to Murdoch’s engineering laboratories and pilot plant and, as part of the upgrade, Danfoss are replacing a large section of the variable speed drivers.
Murdoch’s Associate Professor of Engineering, Graeme Cole, said simulation opportunities for students were vital in learning industry skills for plant operations and control.
“This C300 industrial controller that runs the plant is the top-of-the-line controller that is used everywhere in the world," Professor Cole said. “Students will learn to program, set up and maintain this system.”
Honeywell Process Solutions Pacific Managing Director Tony Cosgrove said the investment in graduates was a vital part of Honeywell’s sourcing and development programs.
“Partnering with universities, including sponsoring prizes and awards, mentoring students and support with hardware and equipment is part of our commitment to future technical leaders and engineering excellence,” Cosgrove said.
“We have a long-established relationship with Murdoch University which has been very rewarding over the years. We view the installation of a Honeywell Control System into their plant simulator as a worthwhile investment in the strengthening of that relationship and the quality of knowledge future graduates will have on our product and control systems generally.”
Both Danfoss and Honeywell will be providing training to Murdoch University staff.
