Soccer-playing rescue robots compete at UQ
Hundreds of school students from Australia and around the world converged on the University of Queensland to compete in RoboCup Junior Australia over the weekend. The event allows students to refine their artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics skills in a fun and educational setting.
Robots were programmed to dance to music, play soccer and rescue a ‘victim’ from a life-threatening situation such as a chemical spill.
“Each year I am amazed at the high calibre of robotic projects which are being produced by school students,” said Professor Paul Strooper, Head of UQ’s School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
“It’s a fantastic event for UQ to be part of and one which makes me excited for the future of Australia’s engineering and ICT industries.”
