Pharmaceutical giant to build $47m manufacturing plant

Tuesday, 04 March, 2014

German pharmaceutical company Fresenius Kabi has announced plans to open a $47 million manufacturing plant in Derrimut, near Melbourne, which will create 120 new jobs. The facility is expected to be operational by 2016.

The plant will make intravenous therapy bags and other medical products including cancer treatments and is estimated to be able to produce 29 million units annually.

“The Victorian Government has worked very closely with the company over the last 12 to 18 months to secure this facility and we see this as a great announcement for the west and a great endorsement for the Victorian economy,” said Technology Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips.

The plant is reportedly being built with a grant from the Victorian Government and will be capable of 24 hour-a-day operation.
