Orrcon Steel opens advanced manufacturing facility in Unanderra
Orrcon Steel Manufacturing has opened its new Unanderra Pipe and Tube Mill, BlueScope reported in a LinkedIn post. The facility was opened by Paul Scully, NSW Planning and Public Spaces and Member for Wollongong.
The launch of the Unanderra mill marked a significant milestone for Orrcon Steel, which joined the BlueScope group of companies 10 years ago.
The post said the achievement underscores the benefits of sustained investment and the importance of building sovereign capability to deliver increased local content for Australia’s infrastructure, commercial building, transport and energy sectors.
The state-of-the-art mill, featuring advanced robotics and automation, can produce up to 90 m of tubular product per minute, including large circular, square and rectangular hollow sections up to 25 cm in diameter.
This new facility extends Orrcon Steel’s existing range from its mills in Salisbury, Qld, and O’Sullivan Beach, SA, replacing larger sections that were previously imported into Australia.
Special commendations were given to the teams at Orrcon Steel and BlueScope for their dedication to making this project a reality, with particular recognition of Brendan McNally (Unanderra Manufacturing Manager) for his tireless efforts in overseeing and ensuring the project’s successful completion.
