Tuesday, 03 September, 2013

Orica has reported a liquid ammonia spill at its Kooragang Island facility. According to the company, a leak developed at the plant and 100 kg of liquid ammonia had been lost but was contained on-site.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Police and HAZMAT have attended the scene.

“The ammonia vapour was suppressed with a water spray and fully contained on-site without impact on Orica’s Kooragang Island workforce or the surrounding community,” a statement on Orica’s website said.

“While the release was below reportable levels, Orica contacted relevant authorities and the fire service and regulators attended the site as a precautionary measure.”
