Minister for Natural Resources and Mines to join thought leaders at QME 2016

Thursday, 14 July, 2016

The Hon. Dr Anthony Lynham, Minister for State Development and the Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, will officiate this month’s thought leadership discussion at the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) in Mackay, 26–28 July.

Dr Lynham joins a number of industry experts already appointed to the QME Thought Leadership Panel, including World Coal Association’s Chairman and Glencore’s Group Executive - Coal Assets Mick Buffier, Peabody Energy’s Australian President Charles Meintjes, as well as Infrastructure and Economic Policy Director for Queensland Resources Council, Andrew Barger.

This year, the panel will discuss the coal mining industry’s position both domestically and internationally, particularly in relation to its future and what needs to be addressed in order to keep the Australian industry viable.

QME Exhibition Director Robby Clark said attendees can expect this year’s panel of influencers to provide well-informed and insightful feedback not just on the coal industry, but also on a range of pressing industry topics.

“The event remains focused on business to business outcomes; however, it also offers plenty of opportunities for attendees to network and gain valuable insights on the industry,” he said.

Clark confirmed that to date, over 170 exhibitors from all sectors ranging from conveyor belts to PPE will be showcasing their newest developments at this year’s exhibition.

Chairman of the World Coal Association and co-panelist Mick Buffier said QME provides an ideal setting to discuss the vital issues affecting mining industries at large.

“[The event] illustrates how a collaborative approach from all industry stakeholders can create a sustainable and profitable industry,” he said.

Tickets to the talks are limited and further information on tickets as well as the QME 2016 agenda for each day of the event can be obtained by visiting www.qmeexpo.com.au.

The QME Thought Leadership Panel will take place from 1.30 pm, Wednesday, 27 July, upstairs at the 500 Pavillion.
