General Mills to close Vic manufacturing plant
As part of a restructuring effort in Australia, General Mills has announced plans to close its manufacturing facility in Mount Waverly, Victoria, and move its production activity in the country to an expanded plant in Rooty Hill, New South Wales, the US-based food company said.
Slated to close between April and June in 2018, the plant currently makes pasta, sauce and ready-to-eat meals, among which are well-known brands Betty Crocker, Latina and Old El Paso.
General Mills said it is working to redeploy and relocate employees to the Rooty Hill location “as appropriate” but said that “it is likely that most roles from Mount Waverly will become redundant”.
The company said that all staff have been notified of the closure.
General Mills said the decision was made “to simply General Mills’ supply chain and secure the future growth of the business”.
