AGL Energy to build gas-fired power plant in Victoria
Victorian Planning Minister Matthew Guy has approved a $600 million, 920 MW power station to be built in Tarrone, in Victoria's southwest, saying the plant will help secure the state's energy future and boost the region's economy.
The government intends for the Tarrone station to connect to a substation approved as part of the nearby Macarthur wind farm currently under construction. Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine said the move would further build the region's reputation as a sustainable energy hub.
"This proposed new gas-fired power station, together with the large wind-energy projects currently underway across our region, represents a $2 billion investment in low emissions and renewable energy in western Victoria," Dr Napthine said.
