4.6 magnitude earthquake damages WA gold mine

Tuesday, 04 March, 2014

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake has caused damage to Northern Star Resources’ Raleigh Underground Mine, which is part of the 51% East Kundana Joint Venture (EKJV).

The company says the damage will disrupt production for six to eight weeks, potentially delaying 3000 to 5000 ounces of gold production for 2014.

The company’s Rubicon and Hornet mines, which provide the bulk of the EKJV gold production, were unaffected by the earthquake.

According to The West Australian, the earthquake forced the evacuation of the nearby Frog’s Leg and Homestead underground gold mines.
