"Haere mai" to corrosion professionals at C&P2016 in Auckland

A continuing challenge for governments and industries around the world is to develop technologies and practices that will help reduce the multibillion-dollar cost of corrosion mitigation and repair. It has been estimated that more than 3% of global GDP each year is spent on managing this insidious threat.

Asset owners and professionals involved in the corrosion industry are encouraged to network with colleagues and peers, as well as learn the latest information concerning corrosion prevention, control and repair, by attending Corrosion & Prevention 2016, presented by the Australasian Corrosion Association (ACA). Each year, the ACA organises the conference and trade exhibition to support and promote all efforts to minimise the impact of corrosion. C&P2016 will be staged in Auckland’s SkyCity Convention Centre from 13–16 November 2016 and will bring together leading researchers and industry practitioners who combat corrosion on a daily basis.

Industry experts will deliver five plenary addresses — including the PF Thompson Lecture — and 83 seminars across four technical streams, in addition to six forums. The Technical Group Forums are a vital part of the conference and provide opportunities for industry and technical information exchange through in-depth discussions, debating of ideas and solutions as well as collaboration in areas that require a ‘whole of industry’ approach. In particular, the Asset Management Forum will highlight asset management practices to help organisations improve efficiency and reduce costs by identifying the lowest life cycle cost construction, maintenance and renewal options.

The NZ Conservators of Cultural Materials Association Forum will cover the complexities and idiosyncrasies of conserving heavily degraded glass, wood and metal materials from historic shipwrecks and terrestrial sites.

C&P2016 will be of value to people working in a wide range of industries, including construction, oil and gas, mining, cultural and historical materials preservation, power generation, maritime, asset management, food processing and defence.

The ACA is a not-for-profit membership association which provides training, seminars, conferences, publications and other activities to disseminate information about corrosion and its prevention or control. The industry association was formed in 1955 and represents companies, organisations and individuals involved in the fight against corrosion and promotes cooperation between academic, industrial, commercial and governmental organisations.
