Hewlett-Packard is planning to invest some $200m to expand its IT services presence in China. According to reports, the California-based HP will invest the sum in developing its IT consulting, systems integration and outsourcing services. This will add to the company's plan to open a financial service centre in Shanghai over the coming months.

HP's move to build up its offshore operations follows recent moves by competitors such as Accenture, and BearingPoint, which have expanded in the market by setting up application development and maintenance operations for western clients. China is widely expected to be the next major offshore contracting hub for IT services companies.
