The 2006 Engineering Excellence Awards have this year recognised the world-class expertise of Queensland engineers with the award of the overall RW Hawken Award being presented to Brisbane-based Sinclair Knight Merz working with HOK Sport Venue & Event for their work on the Nanjing Sports Park in China.

Forty-four projects competed for three overall awards and eight category awards at the ceremony, which showcased Queensland engineers and their work on some of the state's major infrastructure projects.

Speaking at the awards, Engineers Australia Queensland Division president Richard Morgan said that the awards were an occasion to celebrate the work of engineers and the direct contribution they have made to the development of the state, as well as the direct influence on our way of life and the community we live in.

Engineers Australia is one of the largest professional associations in Australia, representing 80,000 professionals in the engineering and related industries nationally, and 16,000 Queensland-wide.
