Cetra Technologies wins Australian Gas Innovation Award for Cetrafoam

Cetra Technologies took home gold at the inaugural Australian Gas Innovation Awards, part of the Australian Gas Technology Conference and Exhibition (AGT).

Perth-based Cetra Technologies received the award in the commercial category of the new awards program for its Cetrafoam product, an environmentally friendly cryogenic insulation material designed for use in LNG applications.

Cetrafoam is claimed to be simpler, quicker and easier to install than conventional foam insulation. It is designed to reduce waste by over 90%, which may save over 10,000 m³ of waste insulation generated from the cutting operations going into landfill.

Other finalists in the category were pipeline installation company Murphy Pipe and Civil and Integrated Energy. The award was judged on key criteria assessing the originality, impact and practicality of the innovation.

Speaking about the awards, AGT Event Director Bill Hare said, “The awards aim to raise awareness of innovation as a driver of economic and technological change and to maximise the commercialisation of ideas by building links between industry, research and learning.

“Australia is poised to become the world’s leading LNG exporter by 2020 and this growth is driving an extraordinary range of innovative products, projects and technologies.”

The research category of the awards saw Dr Xianhua Liu from the University of Western Australia and Curtin University, Reza Rezaee from Curtin University and Bassem Samir Youssef from the University of Western Australia receive commendations from the judges.
