Australia's premier annual trade exhibition for the manufacturing industry, National Manufacturing Week (NMW 2004), is the largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

In 2004, this major exhibition expands its offer by featuring eleven major manufacturing events under the NMW banner:

  • AIEE - Australia's International Engineering Exhibition
  • CIMTech - computers in manufacturing
  • PACEX - process and control
  • MATEX - materials handling, safety and logistics
  • Assembly Technology Expo
  • AUSTECH - machine tool technology
  • Welding Joining & Heat Treatment Pavilion
  • Pneumatics and Hydraulics - modern industrial pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Futuresafe Exhibition - occupational health and safety products and technology
  • Futuresafe Conference - Australia's largest conference for occupational health and safety risk management professionals
  • Blackwoods Pavilion

"NMW 2004 will offer a virtual 'one stop shop' encompassing the disciplines of process control, safety, engineering, materials handling, machine tools, assembly and welding," says John Gorton, exhibition manager, Reed Exhibitions.

"Bringing together events that are representative of the breadth of the industry provides visitors with a unique opportunity to meet with experts and to experience first hand the directions their particular sectors are taking."

Some of the highlights of NMW 2004 will include:

PACEX - the Process and Control Exhibition will feature a broad range of products, many of which will be exhibited for the first time, including process management software, instrumentation, data logging equipment, and measurement devices.

Australian software distributor, Ceanet will be showcasing new additions to its range; the new version of Minitab Statistical Software for Windows, and the PatchLink Update.

Minitab Release 14 (R14) is the first update of this software in four years. Featuring extensive graphic enhancements including superior graph creation and editing, enhanced visual representation and new options in graph flexibility, R14 is designed to facilitate more effective analysis and use of data.

Previously only available online, PatchLink Update, leading-edge security patch software used to secure computer systems, will now be supported locally by Ceanet - making it easier for the Australian industry to embrace.

Measurement & Analysis Camera Systems (MACS) will be conducting demonstrations of the new Photron Fastcam-X 512 PCI, a PCI version of the Photron ultima 512.

The Photron Fastcam-X 512 PCI, which is suitable for use with any desktop computer or laptop, provides high-speed imaging capabilities up to 32,000 frames per second (fps) with a maximum achievable resolution of 512 by 512 pixels at speeds up to 2000 fps.

MACS can also supply a 'PCI expansion system', which enables the PCI card to be placed in a cradle for easy connection to a laptop computer. This portable configuration can be used with up to four camera cards, along with a separate hard drive, for easy, remote image storage.

The FutureSafe Conference and Exhibition is new to NMW in 2004. Organised by the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA), the FutureSafe Conference will address the key issues facing occupational health and safety and risk management professionals.

The conference will include a first-class program of keynotes, technical sessions, workshops and networking events covering topics such as behavioural safety, management responsibility, labour hire and outsourcing, safe plant design, and workers' compensation.

The Futuresafe Exhibition will showcase the latest products and technologies aimed at improving safety for both personnel and assets. Displays will cover a broad range of manufacturing industry requirements from employee training through to protective clothing and eyewear. A number of new products will also be launched including a new online health and safety management system.

Visitors will be able to learn about preventative safety techniques including handling solutions, electrical safety systems, industrial sensors and emission monitoring devices.

AUSTECH will cover all aspects of machine tool technology including robotics and automation. Featuring more than 80 displays, many companies will use the event to launch new products such as a water-jet cutting machine suitable for soft and rigid materials; cutting, punching and bending tools; lathes; band-saw blades; and the latest versions of machining software.

The impact of computer-based processes, systems and services on the manufacturing industry will be showcased at CIMTech. Displays will include the industrial strength computer hardware, and ERP solutions and software.

"By encompassing a number of complementary manufacturing segments, NMW 2004 will provide visitors with an unprecedented opportunity to witness first hand the directions for Australia's largest employment and export sector," concludes Gorton.
