Process automation solution

The PlantPAx solution from Rockwell Automation is designed to provide a single platform for a unified plant process control system. Featuring a process control core based on the company’s integrated architecture, PlantPAx provides a scalable portfolio of enhanced process technologies, solutions and services for plant-wide control.

By adopting the key functionality of both DCS and PLC systems, the system is designed to fulfil a broad hybrid-solution base.

The system comprises several modules that provide a platform for a suite of scalable process control solutions. The centrally engineered system core simplifies configuration, facilitates modularity, and provides multidisciplinary control, further enabling comprehensive solutions to be reached.

The system has ‘process information’ and ‘system tools and utilities’ modules, providing real-time access and analysis of process information. These standard modules include preconfigured libraries of Logix Add-On instructions for commonly used process devices, minimising the need for manual programming by the end-user. The standard package also provides utilities to help convert legacy DCS platforms to the PlantPAx process automation system.

The platform also provides several optional modules. The ‘critical control and safety’ module maintains control of critical processes and prevents dangerous hazards, protecting assets, production and equipment. Additional levels of process and diagnostic coverage are provided by the ‘field device integration and asset management’ module, resulting in improved plant financial, environmental and safety performance. Scalable solutions, to meet a wide range of batch requirements, can be provided by the ‘batch management and control’ module, which can improve yield, reduce costs and improve quality.
