Weidmuller VPU DC photovoltaic surge protection

The Weidmuller VPU DC surge protection series has been specially designed for photovoltaic systems. Independently tested by CTI in Austria, the series complies fully with both the latest international and local (AS/NZS 5033:2012) requirements.

The range includes 600, 1000, 1200 and 1500 VDC models in Type I and Type II options. Type I provides surge protection for use with external lightning protection systems while Type II delivers surge protection to installations that have no external lightning protection.

The VPU series combines varistor and gas discharge technology to provide sustainable protection. This, together with the thermal fuse system offers maximum reliability in lightning and surge voltage protection.

A mounting rail clip enables simple and fast assembly and removal, without the need for tools. The devices can also be rotated 180° in the cabinet to ensure the highest degree of flexibility during installation and without impacting on overall visibility.

The large, central status display window allows users to see at a glance the status of the protective function. If the flag in the status window changes from green to red it is no longer providing protection and needs to be replaced. The choice of an alarm function that notifies users via relay is available on all models. All the modules are self monitoring. Once the life of the module has been extinguished the alarm function indicates the need for replacing.

The units also feature ‘Y’ type models to ensure that fault currents do not affect the surge protection device from overvoltage.
